Samsung SDI, Bosch win EV battery deal from Mahindra

South Korea’s Samsung SDI is the world’s No. 1 rechargeable battery maker. The corporation reported on Tuesday that its joint venture with Germany’s Robert Bosch company will supply lithium-ion batteries for Mahindra & Mahindra’s electric cars.

This is a 50-50 joint venture. Samsung said reported in a statement that this joint venture SB Li Motive will provide batteries for Mahindra’s first hybrid SUV model from 2013.

SB Li Motive was preferred to enhance EV batteries with U.S. car makers that includes GM and Ford. It already has a lithium-ion battery supply deal fro Chrysler Group’s upcoming electric vehicle, the Fiat 500 EV.
